Dr. Gina Zito

Hi, I'm Dr. Gina Zito

PhD in Exercise Physiology. Professor, researcher, nutrition specialist, and personal trainer.

I bridge the gap between scientific research and strategies you can actually live with.

You can't out-discipline bad information

What to expect here

Evidence over hype

I read the studies so you don't have to. I'll tell you what the research actually says, not what the headline says, not what the supplement company says, but what the data shows.

Realistic over perfect

Health isn't built through perfection. It's built through sustainable habits that fit into your actual life. If a strategy requires you to be a different person, it's not the right strategy for you.

Compassion over judgment

You're not lazy. You're not broken. You're not failing. You're learning. And I'm here to help you find a better way.

Why this work matters to me

I know what it's like to give maximum effort and not see results.

Starting at a relatively young age, I cared about eating well and being in shape, but so much of my effort was misdirected. I had the drive to be healthier, but I didn't have the information I needed. I've eaten the "healthy" food (nothing like some good old sugar-laden, fat-free food without the satiety of actual fat). I've done the "most intense" workouts (shout out to the Jane Fonda videos I used to do). I followed the protocols I thought I was supposed to, and was underwhelmed by the results. That wasn't because I lacked discipline. It was because I didn't have the right information.

That experience shaped everything I do now. Willpower doesn't fix a flawed strategy.

This platform exists for the people who think they're "not trying hard enough," when in reality they're often the ones trying the hardest, just with the wrong map. My goal isn't to motivate you to work harder. It's to help you work smarter, with strategies that actually match your physiology, your life, and your goals.

The research behind the mission

Credentials and studies

As principal investigator of a University of Miami clinical trial, I tested whether well-designed virtual HIIT could match traditional in-person training. It could, for body composition, aerobic fitness, and key markers of cardiovascular health in overweight and obese premenopausal women.

  • Ph.D. Exercise Physiology, University of Miami. Designed, ran, and coordinated the trial end to end, study design, grants, recruitment, lab testing, nutrition analysis, statistics, and staff.
  • M.S. Degree Exercise Physiology, University of South Florida. Thermogenic supplements, resting metabolic rate, and cardiovascular responses, work that led to presentations and publications in sports nutrition.
  • Nutrition Specialist Research on visceral adipose tissue, diet, body composition, and vascular health in women from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds.
  • THINK Program Helped develop and teach nutrition and exercise education that gives adolescents tools for healthier choices.

In the classroom

Teaching as translation

Today I teach graduate courses in exercise physiology, sports nutrition, and research methods. I'm passionate about helping students understand not just what the evidence shows, but how to evaluate research for themselves. Scientific literacy is one of the most powerful tools people can develop in a world filled with conflicting health information.

Beyond the lab

Training that has to work on a body, not just on paper

Outside the classroom, I've been an aerial coach and performer since 2014. My own injuries, performing arts career, and coaching experience have reinforced my core belief: successful training extends beyond physiology. It requires intelligent programming, injury prevention, recovery, nutrition, and sustainable habits that fit into everyday life.

What matters most to me is translating science into action. I stay current with emerging research on exercise, nutrition, supplementation, recovery, and healthy aging, so I can separate evidence from hype. Having balanced research, teaching, coaching, performance, medical conditions, and the challenges of everyday life myself, I understand that health isn't built through perfection.

My philosophy is simple: the best fitness and nutrition strategies are the ones supported by evidence, realistic to maintain, and capable of improving health for the long term.

Whether you're here because you're frustrated with your own progress, curious about the science, or just tired of the noise. Welcome!

This space is for anyone willing to put in the work, but who wants to make sure the work is actually working.

Because you deserve results that match your effort. And that starts with having the right map.

Evidence-based science. Simplified for life.
